Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are two great cities in Tennessee that offer a lot of family-friendly activities. They’re home to some of the most famous attractions in the world, including Ripley’s Aquarium and Sky Lift Sky Bridge. The Great Smoky Mts. National Park is also nearby, as well as Dollywood Splash Country amusement park where you can ride over water rides like Thunderhead Mountain Roller Coaster and Hurricane Harbor Waterpark. There are many other things to do in Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge if your kids love adventure!
Ripley’s Aquarium is a great place to visit while in Gatlinburg. It is a large aquarium with many different kinds of fish, including sharks and eels. The Ripley’s Aquarium also has an underwater tunnel that you can walk through as well as a shark tunnel where you can see sharks swimming around you! This is definitely something worth seeing if you’re visiting Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge for the first time!
The aquarium is also home to many other animals including stingrays, penguins and otters. You can even get up close and personal with some of the animals at the touch tanks! This is a great place for families with young children as well as adults to visit.
Gatlinburg Space Needle
The Gatlinburg Space Needle is a tower that you can climb to the top of and enjoy panoramic views of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. It is open from 11am-9pm daily, with admissions ranging from $16-$33 per adult. There are no rides or activities on this attraction; instead, visitors are free to simply take in the sights or relax on their own while they wait for others who want to go up (or down).
The cost will vary depending upon how many people are in your group: two adults costs $22 each way ($38 total); three people costs $30 each way ($48 total); four people costs $36 each way ($54 total); five people costs $40/each way ($60 total).
- Wonderworks is a hands-on science museum for kids. It’s located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and it has lots of interactive exhibits for the whole family to enjoy.
- The facility includes a large indoor playground, laser tag arena and several rooms full of interactive exhibits that will keep your little ones entertained for hours.
- The best part? You can bring your own food and drinks into the building!

The Great Smoky Mts. National Park is a must-see for anyone who loves nature and outdoor activities. The park lies in Tennessee, but you can also find it in North Carolina and Virginia as well.

- Go hiking on the Appalachian Trail (AT) which is over 2,000 miles long! It stretches from Georgia to Maine and crosses through some beautiful areas such as Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge or Mount LeConte/Sevierville/junction of the AT with The Blue Ridge Parkway at Clingman’s Dome Overlook Station #50 on US 19N/US 129A
Sky Lift Sky Bridge
The Sky Lift Sky Bridge is a great way to see the city from above. This aerial tramway offers a bird’s eye view of the Smoky Mountains, and it’s open year round!
The Sky Lift Sky Bridge is the world’s longest aerial tramway, at more than 17 miles long. It has 29 gondolas with a capacity of up to 8 people each, allowing visitors to experience an elevated view of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge as they glide through their natural terrain.

Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum is a fun, interactive museum that allows you to learn about the history of salt and pepper shakers. The museum has over 2,000 different pieces of art that were made by artists all over the world. You can see how they were made, what materials they were made from, and even how they were used! There’s even an exhibit called “The History Of Tabletop Objects” where you’ll find everything from silverware to crystal glasses!

- Ripley’s Aquarium – This aquarium has more than 1,200 animals from all over the world! It’s especially great if you’re planning on visiting during spring break or summer vacation. The aquarium is located right next to Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum so you can spend some time there too!
- Space Needle – The Space Needle is another one of our favorite family attractions because it gives everyone something different to experience while they’re here! You can go up by elevator or sky bridge (which offers views that change every 15 minutes) depending on how old your kids are or how much time you want them looking at things from above rather than ground level viewings like we usually do when traveling together as a family unit 🙂
